McLaren’s radio call telling Lando Norris to chase down Max Verstappen in the Las Vegas Grand Prix ended up amusing Red Bull’s Helmut Marko. He said that message stood out as the “best moment of the race,” especially since Verstappen was never in real danger.
Marko praised Verstappen’s performance, calling it an “incredible show” and insisting that Norris had no realistic chance of overtaking the Red Bull. In his view, Verstappen was in complete control from start to finish.
The moment that triggered McLaren’s encouragement came when Norris was urged to push harder and target Verstappen ahead. But according to Marko, the attempt was more hopeful than threatening.
At the start of the race, Norris had the advantage of pole position, with Verstappen starting alongside him. Norris made an aggressive move to block Verstappen heading into Turn 1, trying to maintain the lead.
However, he braked too late and ran wide, giving Verstappen the opening to slip past. George Russell followed through as well, leaving Norris to recover while Verstappen settled into command of the race.
