During last year’s Interlagos Grand Prix weekend, Lewis Hamilton delivered an unforgettable tribute to his idol Ayrton Senna, captivating fans across Brazil. The seven-time world champion took to the track in one of Senna’s most legendary cars, creating an emotional and nostalgic moment for Formula 1 enthusiasts.
Hamilton drove the iconic McLaren MP4/5B, the very car that Senna used to secure his second World Championship title in 1990. The sight of the British driver behind the wheel of the classic machine instantly evoked memories of the Brazilian legend’s golden era in Formula 1.
The tribute formed part of the “Senna Sempre” celebration, held to mark 30 years since Senna’s tragic death at Imola on May 1, 1994. Despite the rainy weather, Hamilton took to the circuit just before the race, showcasing his admiration and respect for one of the sport’s greatest heroes.
As Hamilton completed his lap, he reached for a Brazilian flag and proudly waved it from the cockpit, a symbolic gesture that electrified the Interlagos crowd. The moment echoed Senna’s own famous post-race celebrations, adding a deeply personal touch to the tribute.
Reflecting on the event, Hamilton described the experience as “the greatest honour of my career.” His heartfelt performance at Interlagos not only celebrated Senna’s enduring legacy but also reinforced the unbreakable bond between the two racing icons across generations.
