Broc Feeney says he’s committed to Red Bull Ampol Racing “for the rest of my life” after an emotional 24 hours that saw him go from Supercars heartbreak to the thrill of a Formula 1 test drive. The young driver experienced a dramatic swing from disappointment to excitement in just one day.
Feeney and his teammate Will Brown were given the chance to take the wheel of the 2011 Red Bull Racing RB7 at The Bend on Monday. The car had been showcased at the Adelaide Grand Final, and although the team wished the laps could have been part of a title celebration, the opportunity gave Feeney a much-needed lift after losing the championship.
The test was part of a Red Bull project involving an F1–Supercars car swap, featuring Brendon Hartley and Scott Speed, with the footage set to appear in a new video by the brand. The event was kept tightly under wraps until the moment Feeney spoke publicly about it.
Speaking at the Supercars Gala Awards, Feeney joked that Helmut Marko had just called him and that fans “won’t need to put up with him next year.” He shared how intense, fast, and physically demanding the RB7 was, even admitting his neck was feeling the strain of the experience.
Feeney said driving an F1 car was a lifelong dream he never expected to become reality. He thanked Red Bull for the unforgettable moment, saying it helped lift his spirits during what had been a difficult and emotional day, leaving him with a smile despite the disappointment.
