Essendon has continued its strong off-season momentum by locking in five more key players for its VFLW squad. The club announced that Jayda Richardson, Layla Prince, Ashlea Melnikas, Sarah Ford, and Tayla Hart-Aluni have all re-signed for the upcoming season, strengthening the team’s depth and stability heading into 2026.
This latest round of commitments follows a similar wave of re-signings the previous week, which included team captain El Chaston and four other players. The Bombers are clearly focused on maintaining a core group of experienced and emerging talent as they prepare for another competitive year.
Among the players staying on, Layla Prince stood out in 2025 as runner-up in the club’s Best and Fairest count, highlighting her consistent performances across the season. Sarah Ford was also recognised for her leadership and contribution off the field, earning the Best Club Person award for her influence within the playing group.
Meanwhile, Jayda Richardson has been identified as an emerging leader within the team, stepping up her impact both on and off the field. Ashlea Melnikas followed up a career-best 2024 with another strong campaign, while Tayla Hart-Aluni continues to show promise despite recent injury setbacks that have tested her resilience and determination.
Collectively, these re-signings reinforce the Bombers’ commitment to building a strong, cohesive, and forward-looking VFLW program. With a mix of experience, leadership, and youth, Essendon’s women’s side is setting the foundation for sustained success in the seasons ahead.
