Sam Mendes has reportedly been blocked from filming at the legendary Abbey Road crossing for his upcoming project, The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event. The director had hoped to use the iconic location as part of the production, but Westminster Council has refused permission.
The highly anticipated series of four films is scheduled for release in April 2028. The cast includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson portraying John Lennon, bringing the Fab Four to life for a new generation.
Production has already begun with Mendes leading the ambitious multi-film project. His intention was to recreate the world-famous Abbey Road album cover, one of the most recognizable images in music history.
However, according to a report from The Sun, the council decided not to grant approval for filming at the crossing. Their refusal has halted Mendes’ plan to shoot the iconic scene on location, forcing the team to rethink how to portray the moment.
A source told the publication that Westminster Council rejected the request because filming safely would require shutting down the entire road. With the crossing being a busy public area, the disruption would have been too significant to allow production to proceed there.
