Damon Hill believes Oliver Bearman has shown unmistakable signs that he is ready for a top-tier Formula 1 seat. The former world champion has been impressed by the young Haas driver’s recent performances, which have strengthened the idea that Ferrari view him as a future replacement for Lewis Hamilton.
Bearman has long been considered the natural heir to Hamilton at Ferrari once the seven-time champion eventually ends his time with the Italian team. The 20-year-old is currently spending his first seasons in F1 on loan at Haas, with his deal running through 2026, but he remains a key part of Ferrari’s long-term plans.
Speculation over Bearman’s move to Maranello has intensified, especially as Hamilton has described his debut season at Ferrari as a “nightmare.” Despite arriving in 2025 with huge expectations, the 40-year-old has not yet secured a single podium, raising doubts about his future with the team.
Reports now suggest that Ferrari might promote Bearman earlier than expected — possibly even before 2027. The team is conscious that other F1 outfits may try to lure the rising star away, given his strong development and growing reputation.
Ferrari leaders have been particularly impressed by Bearman’s steady performances and reliability. While his raw speed has never been in question, his consistency this season has further convinced the team that he has the maturity and talent needed to take the next step in his career
