Max Verstappen’s preparations for his Nürburgring Nordschleife outing suffered an unexpected setback after the Dutch driver was forced out of his Mercedes GT3 during practice due to technical complications. The four-time world champion, who has already endured a difficult start to the 2026 Formula 1 campaign, encountered further frustration as suspension-related issues disrupted his track time ahead of the endurance event.
With no Formula 1 race scheduled for the weekend, Verstappen had shifted focus to the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, where he was set to share driving duties with Jules Gounon and Daniel Juncadella. However, the session was compromised as engineers were forced to intervene, eventually moving Verstappen into a replacement car. The disruption significantly limited running time, leaving the team with minimal data heading into the race.
The situation was compounded when the practice session was halted and not resumed, further restricting preparation opportunities. As a result, the team now faces the challenge of refining the car setup overnight while managing uncertainty surrounding performance and reliability. Such constraints could prove decisive, particularly on a circuit as demanding and unforgiving as the Nordschleife.
Despite the setback, Verstappen arrives at the venue with proven credentials, having previously secured victory in a GT3 event at the circuit. Nevertheless, concerns remain over whether limited preparation will hinder his competitiveness. Attention will soon shift back to Formula 1, with the championship resuming at Suzuka, where Verstappen will aim to regain momentum after a turbulent opening to the season.
